Wednesday, 4|27|2011 Well, the 6 new chicks are now almost 2 months old are living in the chicken coop area with the rest of the older chickens. They are doing well and are enjoying the open area and not just a small cage. Also planted five fruit trees that had to be replaced from last years grasshopper invasion. The tomatoes and onions are doing good this year. I hope the peppers really take off and produce this year compared to last years bad harvest. We are getting a ton of eggs everyday, so if you need eggs please let us know. We are getting ready for this weekend at the Princeton Onion Fest; I will be demo painting and Katherine will be hoping for a good turnout to help increase the art class sign ups. Thursday, 4|7|2011 I found some information on the advantages of farm grown eggs to store bought eggs. The info came from the well known magazine “Mother Earth” from the period of 2005 to 2008. 1/3 less cholesterol 3 times more vitamin E 7 times more beta carotene 2 times more omega-3s 6 times more vitamin D high levels of carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin (good for eye health) A classic study published in the “Poultry Science” in 1966 found that the color of the egg yolks is a reliable index of carotenoid levels. The more beneficial carotenoids the eggs contain, the darker orange their yolks will be. Monday, 4|4|2011 This last weekend we moved the chicks to the big coop and into the medium size pen made just for the small one’s that are still growing. Finished fencing up the raised garden beds; now the hens can go out and play in the garden without hurting the garden plants. Tuesday, 3|15|2011 Well This time of the year it’s hard to resist the chicks the Farm Store. Of course they had baby chicks there and I had to buy some. So now we have 6 chicks that will be going to the big chicken coop when they get older. They are Wynndot  buff’s and they are soooooo cute!! Monday, 3|07|2011 This last weekend I started placing 3 foot chicken wire around the raised beds to keep the chickens from digging up the plants as they go around an pick-n-scratch the ground. The beds are starting to show life as spring gets warmer each week. Still have a lot of work to do to get the gardens ready. Right now I have about thirty peach trees that are about 6” tall from seed and 70 tomato plants that are also about 6” tall. As soon as the weather breaks I will be putting them in the ground. One of my goals to start growing peach trees every year, from seed, to sell to the public. Wednesday, 2 | 22 | 2011 Launched the new look on the web site.
